Ever had a salad made with fresh vegetables picked the day before? Head to some of Truckee’s finest restaurants like Old Town Tap, Cottonwood, Stella at the Cedar House and The Station, to name a few, and you could have the opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared with produce picked within the last 12 hours.
What’s the secret to area chefs sourcing the freshest, sustainable ingredients, all within 100 miles of North Lake Tahoe? The Tahoe Food Hub’s Farm Shop.
Tucked inside a warehouse at the Truckee Tahoe Airport is the Food Hub’s Farm Shop boutique market, selling all kinds of sustainably-grown food from more than 50 local farms. In-season fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, bread, eggs, baked goods, dry pantry items and specialty products are available for purchase.
Grab & Go at the Farm Shop
The Farm Shop is ideal for people who care about the food they put in their bodies and about being as waste-free as possible. Everything on the shelves is sourced within 100 miles of Lake Tahoe and free from over-packaging found in commercial grocery stores.
Tahoe Food Hub only works with diversified family farms, ranches and specialty food purveyors – places who’ve applied, been vetted and approved for sustainable farming and sourcing methods, regenerative agricultural practices and pasture-finished animals. Doing your grocery run at the Farm Shop will give you ingredients from small, integrous growers like 24 Carrot Farm out of Placerville, Hillview Farms in Auburn, or Soil Sisters in Nevada City, to name a few.
Stocked at the Farm Shop you’ll find:
– In-season northern California produce – Jams, pickles & jarred goods
– Locally baked goods & sweets – Dry rice, beans and nuts
– Dairy, eggs & cheese – Pasta & prepared meal options
– Meats, sausages & frozen tamales – Coffee, tea & local honey
– Specialty sauces, marinades, oils – Wellness & body products
– Coffee cart, cold brew & kombucha on tap
Items are constantly changing with the seasons, so a trip to the Farm Shop is always a fun adventure in flavor and exploring new ingredients. Not sure what to do with a certain product? The Food Hub staff can recommend a recipe or preparation method for everything they carry.
Order Online & Pick-Up with Harvest to Order
Planning weekly meals using quality, sustainable ingredients is easier than ever with their online farmers market, Harvest to Order. Anyone can sign up for the program online without any recurring charges or monthly subscription obligations. After signing up, the Farm Shop sends an email with everything available fresh that week – and we’re talking everything: produce, meats, dairy, baked goods, sauces, coffee, pantry staples – the works.
Items are available for purchase by-the-each or by-the-pound, just like at the farmers market, so you decide how much food to buy and how much money to spend.
Ordering online is easy:
– Monday the Farm Shop emails a list of the food and products available that week.
– Customers place their orders starting at 4 p.m. Monday, and ending at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
– Wednesday farmers harvest the orders and deliver shipments to the Food Hub.
– Thursday–Saturday boxes are ready for pickup from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., or on Monday-Wednesday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
For those looking for regular, seasonal ingredients who don’t want to select each item on their own, a Harvest box option is also available each week for $30. Harvest boxes are filled with items from the same weekly in-season list and are hand-selected by the Food Hub staff.
Just when you think it can’t get better, it does. Harvest to Order also makes it possible to support a family in your community and feed your neighbor. Unlike other food donation programs , purchasing a Giving box for just $30 will give a local family first-quality produce and food, free of charge.
With plenty of parking and a convenient location at the airport, the Food Hub Farm Shop is the perfect quick-stop for a last-minute meal idea or for planning a weekly errand run. Shopping at the Farm Shop ensures the highest quality, sustainably sourced ingredients for your meals as well as supporting local farms year-round.
