The Truckee Chamber of Commerce is looking for a dynamic, passionate, exceptional President/CEO to lead the Chamber in a time of reimagining and innovation. This is a rare opportunity to be an integral part of the community, lead this essential organization, and implement a new, dynamic strategic plan while embracing the future. 

Truckee, California is a beautiful, authentic mountain town committed to creating a community where people want to live, work and play. Located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Truckee is just 200 miles northeast of San Francisco, California; 100 miles east of Sacramento, California; 40 miles west of Reno, Nevada; and 12 miles north of Lake Tahoe. Planes, trains, and automobiles are three convenient ways to get to Truckee. Interstate 80 runs right through Truckee, as does Amtrak along the Transcontinental Railroad, which passes right through town, and the Truckee Tahoe Airport provides for daily private and charter flights.

The Truckee Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization, founded in 1912 and incorporated in 1953, of over 550 members with the goal of making a positive difference by continually improving the Truckee business climate and strengthening the economic development opportunities, while maintaining Truckee’s community character and sense of place.

Job Description

The President/CEO is responsible for the overall operation of the Chamber and works in partnership with the Board of Directors to set strategic direction and lead the organization to deliver on the intent of the Chamber’s updated vision.


  • Proven leadership skills with experience leading an organization with a broad set of operational functions.
  • Self-motivated, passionate, strategic thinker with an understanding of the vital role the Chamber plays in building a vibrant and prosperous community through business leadership.
  • Possesses strong executive presence and confidence to interact, achieve high visibilibility and relationships with town, county, special districts, elected officials.
  • Understanding of political processes and local government operations with ability to effectively advocate for businesses at local and regional government levels.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and management skills. Strong ability to listen, receive feedback, foster teamwork and collaboration between Board members, staff, Chamber members, community leaders and strategic committees and organizations.
  • Requires strong business acumen, knowledge of business and chamber trends, understanding of economic development strategies including business startup, retention, and expansion.
  • Demonstrated strength in convening and facilitating high-level forums of businesses, associations, special districts, nonprofits, and government.
  • Strong understanding of research, data collection and ability to analyze to shape strategic direction and influence key decision makers.
  • Direct experience in revenue growth, budget development, management, and tracking.
  • Experience in successfully fundraising, sponsorship solicitation, and securing key memberships.
  • Event production experience including the creative development and production of innovative events, budget development and oversight, sponsorship sales, event planning and logistics, development of marketing materials, and overall event execution.
  • Marketing experience in creative development, content creation and writing, public relations, social media, website.
  • Requires excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Google, Zoom, and ability to learn new programs such as chamber association membership management software. Working knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp, social media channels and analytics is a plus.

Core Responsibilities & Duties

Board Relations & Management

  • Prepare and coordinate monthly board meetings, including agenda and all supporting documents
  • Ensure ongoing communication with Chair of the Board and Executive Committee on high-level items, to be then shared with full Board
  • Communicate regularly with the Board on progress of the implementation of the strategic plan. Work with the Board on revisions as needed and annual review of the plan.
  • Oversee terms of Board Members and coordinate annual recruitment of Board members and election
  • Lead the development and coordination of annual retreat / strategic planning session

Member Relations & Development

  • Oversee Membership Manager on development and execution of member programs to drive growth in membership
  • Ensure strong member retention through ongoing member touches, connection and engagement with the Chamber and its programs
  • Review and redesign Chamber membership dues structure as needed

Financial Management

  • Prepare and track the annual Chamber budget, individual event budgets, as well as town contract or other initiatives that may be created.
  • Review and approve expenditures and invoices, working with outsourced bookkeeping service.
  • Review monthly financial reports and present them to Board.
  • Work with outsourced bookkeeping service and CPA to ensure all taxes are properly submitted.
  • Work with Membership Manager to continually review any outstanding memberships or sponsorships
  • Ensure sound financial management practices.

Business Advocacy

  • Oversee research, collection of data, and analysis of community information needs to be seen as the information hub for community and decision makers to proactively influence decisions to assist local business growth and success.
  • Convene and facilitate gatherings of executives, business owners, leaders, and stakeholders in discussions to identify top issues that may affect business.
  • Inform members about key issues and solicit input from membership on issues as needed.
  • Foster relationships with decision makers in order to mutually work on solutions to relevant issues for business success.

Program Development

  • Produce a comprehensive series of programs and events that deliver relevant information, networking and visibility opportunities, advance and promote economic development objectives, and achieve a positive financial net contribution to the organization.
  • Research Chamber trends and other successful programs in order to develop new and innovative programs for a new generation of business leaders.

Community Engagement

  • Continually develop and deliver high-quality communications across all platforms that clearly articulates the Chamber’s value proposition to the members and community at large.
  • Stay connected and build partnerships with other organizations that have common goals for the community.
  • Represent the Chamber at business and community events, meetings, etc.

Marketing & Communications

  • Direct the development and execution of marketing for the Chamber, its programs and events, and members in addition to marketing programs as outlined in the town contract scope of work for community engagement, and economic development.
  • Working with staff and outsourced vendors, build strategies to increase digital engagement. Oversee production of Chamber e-newsletters, press releases, website management and updates, blog posts, social media campaigns, event collateral and advertisements
  • Write and distribute press releases, scripts for award presentations, all communications for all Chamber activities

Visitor & Transportation Services

  • Working with Chamber staff/California Welcome Center Supervisor, oversee the management and operation of the visitor center per the contract with the Town and Visit California

Event Planning, Production and Oversight

  • Working with the planning committee, plan programming and oversee the overall execution of monthly Good Morning Truckee event.
  • Work with staff and outsourced vendors in the creative development of theme, marketing materials, sponsorships, event logistics of annual awards event including gathering of nominations and selection of award winners.
  • Work with staff on the production of the 4th of July parade including sponsor solicitations, event logistics, downtown staging, judges, and MC.
  • Work with staff to ensure regular membership connection events such as Chamber Mixers are planned.

Operations & Administration

  • Oversee the overall operations of the organization
  • Coordinate and supervise staff management, review, development and team building.
  • Update and maintain key organization documents and policies such as bylaws, employee handbook and policies, insurance policies, etc.


Minimum of 5 years managerial experience and serving on, or working with a Board of Directors. Chamber experience preferred, or similar role with either a non-profit organization or for-profit business. WACE Academy Graduate a plus.
