Truckee Big Life Artist: Gallery 5830'

July 26, 2022

Truckee Cultural District and Truckee Artists Alliance are happy to introduce this week’s Big Life Artist: Gallery 5830′. They’ll be at the Big Life booth right in front of the train depot at Truckee Thursdays from 5:00-8:30 pm. Stop by and say hello. Husband and wife team Sara Dube and Curtis Blassingame recently purchased Gallery 5830’ in downtown Truckee and will continue to operate the space as a local artist collective.

There are currently 20 different local artists represented in the gallery, including the glasswork of former owner, Troy Corliss. As an artist, former gallery owner, and art teacher, Dube is excited to have the opportunity to share her own artwork, along with a variety of different artistic styles and price points.

Dube started showing her work in Tahoe in 2010, but put her art on pause for a career in finance, and she currently works in the cryptocurrency industry. “We’d like to help educate on the innovation happening right now between art and tech… we have Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on display, host a free Virtual Reality experience, and accept cryptocurrency as payment,” says Dube.

The couple plans to host community talks along with travel presentations, non-profit education, and boutique art workshops for kids and adults.

“We’d like to invite our community to use our little space as much as possible,” said Dube. “There’s no charge–we are grateful that we can share art and ideas in such a central location. As a long-time Rotarian, I appreciate talks on what is happening in our community, and we’d like to be an extension of that.”

The catalyst for purchasing the gallery was to promote Truckee as an artistic, cultural mountain destination. “We feel like ‘the more art the better’ for downtown Truckee, and look forward to collaborating with fellow galleries and shops to bring back events like Ladies Night and First Fridays,” says Dube. “It’s a big deal that Truckee is one of only 14 California Cultural Districts in the state, and we should be on par with towns like Park City and Telluride.”

Gallery 5830’ is named for the elevation of Truckee, and is located at 10060 Donner Pass Rd, neighboring Squeeze In and Juniper Boutique.  Hours of operations are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., although they are often open earlier and later.
