We are down to earth

We are down to earth

July 7, 2021

From being the general manager of a major ski resort to the barista at a local coffee house, we all are Truckee-ites through and through. Egos take a back seat in Truckee. Your neighbor could be a leader in gaming technology, an attorney, a former pro athlete, or someone born and raised in Truckee who bootstrapped starting their own business. We all come from many different places and walks of life, yet we come together on equal terms. Your kids may all ski on the same team and travel to competitions together. You may challenge each other in a hotly contested game of bocce ball and a bottle of vino. Or sit together on the bench and chat while watching your kids play baseball.

You know “you’re someone” when you’ve been poked fun at in the semi-annual Truckee Follies produced by the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association as a fundraiser. It’s a blush-worthy, sometimes tasteless, hilarious theatrical revue and town roast. The Truckee Follies has been poking fun at Truckee’s community and entertaining a sold-out crowd through a live sketch comedy show for over 40 years.

We embrace and strive to live by “The Truckee Way,” a philosophy developed during incorporation in 1994 by Town of Truckee staff and decision-makers. The essence of which is embraced by the community of treating everyone, and their point of view, with respect, courtesy and fairness. Sounds a lot like the golden rule doesn’t it? Simple rules and philosophies we live by.
