We value live, work, play balance

We value live, work, play balance

Life in Truckee has its own rhythm. A grind of a commute might actually be grinding the gears on your bike while you ride the trails from home to the office. A long day at work in the summer is not so bad when you’re minutes from home to grab your dog, head to Donner Lake, throw the ball for him, relax on the pier and take a dip to cool off. Or take your lunch break to clear your head by doing a quick skate ski at Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center.

One new resident noted how impressed he was that so many highly educated professionals live here. In fact, more than 60% of the population has earned a higher education degree. The “work hard, play hard” manifesto is part of our ethos. It’s not uncommon for someone to lend their professional expertise by sitting on the board of several nonprofits to give back to their community and help make a difference.  Often these are the same people who volunteer to coach their kids’ lacrosse team or young skiers. But when it’s time to play, we approach it with equal gusto, running the trails on the summit in the morning, and taking a long bike ride late afternoon.

We truly do value a live, work, play balance. One of the best examples of this is knocking off work early on Wednesday in the summer to head to the grassy amphitheater at the Regional Park for Music in the Park. People are eating, drinking, visiting while listening to music in the pines watching the kids play in front of the band. Of course the adults meander down to dance away their cares.
