Soar Truckee provides certified flight instruction, tow-planes, and a complete soaring educational curriculum. Truckee Tahoe Soaring Association aims to advance the science, art, and safety of soaring flight in the Northern California and Nevada region with a specific focus on training the next generation of soaring pilots and aviation youth leaders to serve their community and society.
Take a Ride
They offer three rides for 1 or 2 passengers. Prices start at just $160. Imagine the thrill of soaring silently above the high Sierra, looking down from your eagle’s eye view at the lakes and towns surrounding Lake Tahoe. A professional glider pilot, certified by the Federal Aviation Administration, will introduce you to the joys of soaring.
After being towed into the air, your pilot will release from the tow plane, and your glider will silently ride the rising currents of air for which Truckee is world-famous. Truly, few experiences can compare with soaring motor-less high above the mountain range, drinking in the fabulous views, and flying like an eagle. Frequently, pilots may climb as high as 12,000′ or more as they ply the mountain air currents. The view is spectacular regardless of which of their three rides you select. They operate both 1 and 2 passenger gliders.
Youth Pilots – The Next Generation
Glider pilots can earn their solo status as young as age 14, and their full glider private pilot rating at age 16. To do this requires dedication, and maturity at a level significantly above that of their peers. These are exceptional youngsters and Soar Truckee is proud to serve as role models in their development.
Truckee-Tahoe Soaring Association provides youngsters aged 13-18 with glider flight instruction. Many of our “Line Kids” have gone on to serve in both military and civilian aviation.
