Member Spotlight: ReThink Thrift Store

ReThink – A Truckee Thrift, owned and operated by Anna Swanson, embodies the spirit of community and sustainability in Truckee. Having moved from Western New York to Truckee in fall 2019, Anna instantly fell in love with the enchanting snowfall, the joy of paddling on crisp alpine lakes, and the invigorating petrichor following a summer rain. Recognizing the need for an additional place where community members could contribute their usable items, Anna (shown below sporting thrifted items) took the initiative in 2023 to leverage her experience as an online retailer of used clothing and vintage sunglasses, transforming her vision into a thriving brick-and-mortar store. The ever-evolving inventory mirrors the dynamic needs of the Truckee community and the seasonal activities that define the area. ReThink not only serves as a hub for sustainable shopping, but also reflects Anna’s commitment to fostering a sense of community through thoughtful reuse and mindful consumption.

Nestled in the Gateway Shopping Center near Safeway, at the end unit next to Verizon, ReThink stands out for its mission to divert usable goods and clothing from landfills, providing the community with exceptional quality items at remarkably reasonable prices. The store opens its doors Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., inviting the community to explore a treasure trove of clothing, shoes, accessories, and home goods. What sets ReThink apart is its dedication to affordability, offering children’s clothing at an unbeatable $2 per item and ensuring that most inventory is reasonably priced at $20 or less.

ReThink goes beyond just being a shopping destination; it’s a hub for conscious consumerism and sustainability. Drop-offs are welcome Monday through Friday during business hours, with a hassle-free policy for items smaller than 2 bags or 2 boxes, which can be accepted without an appointment. For larger donations, a simple call to 530-563-5113 is all it takes to schedule a drop-off.

Please note that ReThink, in line with its commitment to quality and safety, cannot accept donations that haven’t been cleaned, large furniture, large appliances, or items with child safety restraints. For further guidance, visitors are encouraged to check the Consumer Product Safety Commission Website for any questions about product recalls, as these items cannot be accepted.

In 2024, ReThink introduced a monthly Third Thursday sales event, adding a dynamic element to its offerings. During this special event, all clothing, shoes, and accessories are attractively priced at just $3. Moreover, to accommodate individuals who might not be able to shop during regular hours, Third Thursday extends its business hours from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., making it convenient for everyone to experience the joy of sustainable shopping.

With its expanding initiatives and commitment to providing quality goods, ReThink is a beacon for those seeking both value and values in their shopping experience. Stop by ReThink for your shopping needs and embrace a lifestyle choice that promotes community, sustainability, and affordable living. You can find ReThink at 11310 Donner Pass Rd., (530) 563-5113.
