Attend a Community Event, Pledge to Bike Everywhere, and Join the Bingo Challenge
This June, the Town of Truckee is celebrating Truckee Bike Month to encourage more people to try biking, showcase the many benefits of bicycling, and celebrate the regional bike culture. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, mountain biker, or just getting started, Truckee Bike Month has activities everyone can enjoy and includes several raffle opportunities to earn exciting prizes from local sponsors such as merchandise and gift cards from RMU, Bike Truckee, and Start Haus.
Mayor Polivy urges community members to join Truckee Bike Month alongside the longstanding Tahoe Bike Month, stating, “Biking is a fun way to explore the outdoors, exercise, and reduce your environmental impact. I want to encourage everyone, regardless of age or skill, to join these month-long events and opportunities to explore our regional trails and bikeways.”
Truckee Bike Month incorporates multiple events and challenges that offer participants a chance to connect with the community and directly support the Truckee Town Council’s goal of promoting alternate forms of transportation. These include:
• Take the Bike Month Bingo Challenge– Each completed Bingo earns participants a prize plus an entry into the raffle for a grand prize. Complete the entire card to earn a special prize and an additional raffle entry. Challenges range from exploring a trail you have never been on to testing a BCycle pedal-assist e-bike, parking your bike at the bike valet, and riding around Donner Lake.
• Attend the Bike Kitchen– Bring your bike to Alibi Ale Works on June 12, 2024, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm and learn repair and maintenance skills from mechanics from the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. Bring your bike and let them assist you with everything from flat tires and shifting issues to stuck chains and seat adjustments.
• Utilize the Free Bike Valet– Truckee Trails Foundation will host a free bike valet this month and throughout the summer at Truckee Day, Music in the Park, Truckee Thursdays, and the Truckee Tahoe Airshow.
• Register a Team for Tahoe Bike Month– Together with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has celebrated Tahoe Bike Month for 19 years. Gather your friends, family, and coworkers and create a team. Ride your bike to work or school, around town, or just for fun, tracking your rides over the month to earn points.
• Take the Pledge to Bike Everywhere– Commit to riding your bike everywhere around Truckee on June 26, 2024. Take the pledge to join the Town of Truckee for a day of fun, fitness, and a conscious choice of traveling around town on two wheels. Participants will be entered into a raffle and are encouraged to stop by a refuel station for water refills, air, and a swag bag with discount cards and goodies from local shops.
• Eagle Plaza Refuel Station Downtown Truckee at the corner of Donner Pass Road and Spring Street from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Bike Truckee Refuel Station near the Regional Park from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (10015 Palisades Dr Suite A4).
More information and a complete calendar of events is available at www.keeptruckeegreen.org/bikemonth and the Media Kit includes social media collateral, the bingo challenge cards in English and Spanish, and the Truckee Bike Month poster. Participants are also encouraged to share their photos & stories using the hashtag #TruckeeBikeBingo on Facebook or Instagram.
It’s essential to prioritize bike and pedestrian safety while enjoying our scenic trails. The speed limit for any device, including e-bikes, on paved trails in Truckee is 15 miles per hour. Riders should also be mindful of trail conditions, weather, crossings, and other trail users and consider trail etiquette and safety before hoping on two wheel.
Truckee Bike Month is sponsored by BCycle, Coffeebar, RMU, Truckee Trails Foundation, Start Haus, BlueZone Sports, Bike Truckee, Dark Horse Coffee, and Alibi Ale Works.
