The Town of Truckee proudly announces that Town Manager Jen Callaway has been honored with a Gov Business Review CXO Award, recognizing her as one of the Top 10 Town Managers in the Nation for her outstanding leadership and dedication to strengthening communities.
This award celebrates local government leaders who demonstrate innovation, strategic vision, and meaningful community impact. Throughout her tenure in Truckee, Callaway has exemplified these qualities through clear and collaborative leadership, a strong commitment to organizational culture and employee development, and a focus on transparency and community-centered governance. She has played an essential role in modernizing operations, improving coordination across departments, and advancing key priorities such as sustainability, housing, and long-term resilience. This national recognition not only highlights her exceptional leadership but also affirms Truckee’s reputation as a forward-thinking and high-performing local government.
Before joining the Town of Truckee, Callaway built a rich and varied career in public service, earning both a law degree and a master’s in public administration. She has served at the state level, worked closely with tribal governments, and supported several California communities from the northern region to the Central Coast. These experiences helped her develop strong expertise in performance management, finance, communications, public works, public safety, and municipal administration. Her broad background has shaped her into a thoughtful and well-rounded leader who brings deep knowledge of government operations and a genuine commitment to community-centered service.
Mayor Anna Klovstad shared her congratulations to Callaway at the December 9 Truckee Town Council Meeting, stating, “Anyone who has worked with Jen—or even met with her—knows how grounded she is, how deeply she cares about the people who live and work here, and how tirelessly she has worked to strengthen the town.”
She continued, “This award recognizes her leadership on a national stage, but it also shines a light on the culture she has helped to build within the organization—one of collaboration, transparency, introspection, and community focus.”
Callaway’s recognition as a Top 10 Town Manager brings pride to Truckee and highlights the “Truckee Way” ethos of people-focused leadership and collaboration. It reinforces confidence in the Town’s municipal leadership and showcases Truckee as a community where thoughtful and effective governance is valued and practiced. Her achievement reflects the organization’s shared values and its ongoing commitment to excellence.
Callaway echoed this sentiment, stating, “For me, this recognition reflects the collective strength of Truckee—our outstanding Town team, Town Council, and community. You are the reason this work matters, and the magic that makes it all possible today and for generations to come.”
