The Royal Fire, southwest of Truckee in the Tahoe National Forest, continues to burn in very remote terrain. There is no current threat to Truckee. The Town of Truckee Office of Emergency Services has been in contact with the Incident Command and is coordinating with both Placer County and Nevada County Office of Emergency Services.
Emergency Alerts
We want to remind our community to sign up for emergency notifications. Police and fire agencies will use emergency alert systems as the primary method of communication during critical incidents.
Go to the regional emergency alert locator at TahoeAlerts.com to identify which alert system you should be signed up for. CodeRED is the emergency alert system utilized within Town of Truckee limits, but some properties that have a Truckee address, may be located within Placer County and should be signed up to Placer Alert. The Tahoe Alert website will help to determine which notification system residents should use.
Go to www.townoftruckee.gov/alerts to sign up for CodeRED now.
Evacuation Zones
Authorities will use Zone Names to notify residents which areas are under an evacuation warning or order. In the event of an evacuation incident, knowing your zone could save time when minutes count.
1. Visit the Genasys Protect website – type your address in the search bar or use your current address.
2. Click on the highlighted zone and locate the number listed in the zone description panel.
3. Write your zone down and place it somewhere easily accessible by everyone in your house.
4. Click on Subscribe to Alerts to stay updated in case of an emergency. Go to https://protect.genasys.com now and identify your zone.
Air Quality
Air quality in Truckee is currently Moderate but it is important to stay aware of the conditions around you and each day it’s smoky outside, you should check the air quality index by visiting www.airnow.gov.
When air quality is poor:
• Limit outdoor activity
• Run air conditioning that re-circulates to prevent outside air from moving inside
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed
• Monitor at-risk community members such as children, pregnant or elderly adults, and those with existing lung or heart conditions.
Visiting Truckee
Although there is no current threat to Truckee from the Royal Fire, it is within our region, and ash and air quality impacts can be expected. If you know people who are planning to come into the area, notify them about the conditions and current wildfire incident. Visit Truckee-Tahoe has a frequently-updated Truckee Tahoe Travel Alerts page, with great information and links for visitors for road conditions, air quality, and more. It is important that people visiting the area are signed up for emergency notifications and know the zone of the accommodation that they will be in in case evacuation warnings or orders are put in place.
Keeping Up to Date
Town of Truckee staff are continuing to monitor the Royal Fire and encourage everyone to follow the US Forest Service – Tahoe National Forest and Placer County Sherrif’s Office on social media for the latest information. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office Evacuation Map shows current evacuation warnings and road closures.
