New Resident Meet-Up, Held August 4, 2021

August 4, 2021

The Truckee Chamber of Commerce held a New Resident Meet-up on August 4, 2021 at the Donner Lake Property Owners private beach on the west end of the lake. More than 50 people were in attendance, including new residents, board members of the Truckee Chamber and town and community leaders.

The Chamber started reaching out to new residents in March and held a series of three focus groups to meet and learn more about our new residents. This was followed up with a Thirsty Thursday meet-up in April with the current Mayor Anna Klovstad and first Mayor Kathleen Eagan as our special guests.

“It’s been so difficult for our new residents to connect to our community especially during COVID times,” explained Lynn Saunders, President and CEO of the Truckee Chamber. “We were excited to hold this in-person meet-up to bring new residents we’ve met in our Zoom sessions and community members together..”

The Chamber is looking to develop a Community Concierge Program to help new residents make Truckee their Base Camp for a Big Life, learn more about Truckee’s unique mountain culture and how they can connect, engage, get involved, and support our local businesses. The program will bring together new residents and “local connectors” — community members who can provide peer guidance, who are well-versed in the vibe of the community. If you have moved here since 2019 and are interested in being part of a committee to brainstorm and plan future meet-ups, events, and activities email Lynn@Truckee.com.

“We want to help people become part of our community, get to know people, and get involved,” explains Lynn Saunders, President and CEO of the Truckee Chamber. “We know new residents are anxious to learn about the community and we’re here to help them connect and engage. We want to connect them to businesses and get to know their local owners, ways in which they can volunteer, events and activities they can participate in.”
